Three simple rules

Strip flooring can be laid over an existing floor, ply, chipboard or even concrete. The laying procedure is actually fairly simple if you abide by three simple rules.

  1. The timber must be acclimatized. [Bring the moisture content of the timber to the same as the area it is going to.]
  2. The floor timber must be trowelled glue. [Like tiles glue the entire area, NEVER strip glue]
  3. Preparation is key. The better the sub floor, the better the end result.

Laying over concrete

When laying over concrete there are two methods. First is direct glueing the timber to the concrete, this after applying a moisture barrier. At AJ Floors we use and recommend the Bostik brand for both of these. Secondly the system we mainly use, is after apply a black plastic sheeting [moisture barrier] a 12mm ply sheeting is then fixed to the concrete, and then the timber floor is trowel glued to the ply flooring.
